Question of the Day, 8/26/09

(The following is just an experiment - don't know if I want to commit to doing this, but I'm toying with the idea.)

First, open the following link in a new window to get to Exodus 20.

Second, look at verse 20.

Third, click play on the following video to get the question of the day. (If you're looking at this through Facebook, there will be no video - instead, click here to go to the full blog.)

Wow! He tells them not to be afraid. But then turns around a says "that the fear of him may be before you so that you do not sin.”

Is he telling them not to be afraid of the lightning and thunder, God's demonstrated power. But Fear (awe) Him so that you would not sin against the one with possesses that power?

They are taking a test. Evidently Moses was the only one who was prepared for it. We are all students. We don't need to fear a test, no matter how it flashes and smokes. If we go ahead and just expect the test and prepare for it, we can (almost) enjoy taking it. (I don't think God grades on a curve.)
